Best Dog Grooming Tables for Large Dogs

The question is not whether the table holds the dog. It is how the dog gets on it without you lifting it.

It is the most common way an owner is injured during home grooming, and a dropped dog is a vet visit. Use a low-entry or electric table, a ramp, or work on the floor. If you must lift, two people — one supporting the chest, one the hips — and never by the front legs or the scruff.

Three ways to get a big dog up

The short answer

An electric or hydraulic lift table that drops to near floor level and raises the dog. A ramp up to a fixed table, trained in advance with treats. Or do not raise the dog at all — work on the floor with the dog lying on its side, one side per session. All three are legitimate; lifting is not.

Floor grooming, done properly

There is nothing wrong with grooming a large dog on the floor and plenty of professionals do it for dogs that will not use a table. Put a non-slip mat down, have the dog lie on its side, do that whole side including the legs and the belly, then turn it over. Your back will complain less if you sit on a low stool rather than kneeling. More on positioning and restraint.

Everything else about a big dog

Clippers for large dogs, dryers for large dogs, and nail grinders for large dogs — and if the dog is double-coated, read grooming a double coat before you clip anything.

The picks in full

Every pick, in order

01

Best for giant breeds and senior dogs

Flying Pig electric lift grooming table

Low entry, electric lift, and 220-400 lb capacity. The dog walks on; you do not lift it.

A dog standing on a grooming table

Electric lift grooming table

Tabletop

Capacity
220–400 lb depending on model
Entry
Low-entry height for dogs that cannot be lifted

Specs: PetGroomerHub — Best Grooming Tables Compared 2026

The low entry height is the whole feature. A table that drops to near floor level means the dog steps on and is raised to working height, which removes the single most dangerous moment in grooming a big dog. Published tabletop options of 42 to 50 inches and lift capacities of 220 to 400 lb cover giant breeds comfortably. It costs the most of anything on this site and on a 90 lb dog it earns it.

Getting the dog on10.0
Stability under a big dog9.5
Working height range10.0
Storage footprint3.0
Value5.5
Overall8.4 / 10

What it gets right

  • The low entry height is the real feature: a senior or arthritic dog walks on instead of being lifted
  • Removes the single biggest injury risk in home grooming, which is you lifting the dog
  • Height adjustment mid-groom saves your back on a long session

What it gets wrong

  • The most expensive item in this whole category by a wide margin
  • Needs a power outlet and a permanent floor footprint
  • A motor is one more thing that can fail

Who should skip itSkip it if you own a 15 lb dog you can lift one-handed — you are buying a solution to a problem you do not have.

02

Best non-electric heavy-duty table

Flying Pig foldable grooming table

A frame that does not flex under a determined 80 lb dog, at a fraction of electric money.

Heavy-duty foldable grooming table

Build
Heavy-duty frame built for daily professional use
Configurations
Foldable and electric models available
Capacity
Rated for large and giant breeds

Specs: PetGroomerHub — Best Grooming Tables Compared 2026

If your dog can get onto a table — most fit large dogs can, with a ramp or a step — then what you need from the table is simply that it does not move. A heavy-duty professional frame rated for large and giant breeds gives you that, and you are not paying for a lift motor. Heavy to fold and it takes real storage space.

Getting the dog on6.0
Stability under a big dog9.5
Working height range8.0
Storage footprint6.0
Value8.0
Overall7.8 / 10

What it gets right

  • Built to a professional duty cycle — this is the table that is still square in five years
  • Handles giant breeds without flexing, which is a safety issue, not a comfort one
  • Same brand ecosystem as the arms and accessories, so everything fits

What it gets wrong

  • Heavy. Folding it is a two-hand job and moving it is a chore
  • Costs more than a home groomer strictly needs
  • Takes real storage space even folded

Who should skip itSkip it if you groom one small dog monthly — a lighter table is easier to live with.

Foldable grooming table

Ribbed non-slip rubber

Specs: Dogster — Best Dog Grooming Tables

For a 60 to 80 lb dog that will hop onto a table or take a ramp, a good folding table in the largest tabletop size with the arm included covers it. The folding legs are the long-term weak point under repeated heavy loads, so check and tighten the hardware periodically. Noticeably cheaper than the heavy-duty and electric options.

Getting the dog on6.0
Stability under a big dog7.5
Working height range8.0
Storage footprint8.5
Value9.0
Overall7.9 / 10

What it gets right

  • Arm included, which is the part people forget to budget for and then need immediately
  • Folds, so it does not permanently occupy a room in a house
  • Multiple sizes means you can match the table to the dog rather than the other way round

What it gets wrong

  • Folding legs are the weak point on any folding table over years of use
  • You still have to lift the dog onto it
  • Rubber top holds hair and needs real cleaning

Who should skip itSkip it if your dog is over about 70 lb and you cannot lift — you want a low-entry or electric table.

04

Most important accessory on a big dog

Master Equipment grooming arm with loop

On a 90 lb dog you cannot hold and work at the same time. An arm is not optional.

A dog standing on a grooming table

Grooming arm and restraint

Fitting
Clamps to a table edge
Adjustment
Height-adjustable post
Included
Grooming loop

With a small dog you can get away with one hand on the dog. With a large one you cannot — you need both hands for the clipper and the coat, and the dog needs something telling it where to stand. A height-adjustable arm with a loop solves that, clamps to most table edges, and costs very little next to the table itself.

Getting the dog on5.0
Stability under a big dog8.5
Working height range9.5
Storage footprint9.5
Value10.0
Overall8.5 / 10

What it gets right

  • An arm turns two hands of dog-holding into two hands of grooming — it is the highest-value accessory here
  • Height-adjustable, so the loop sits where it should on any size dog
  • Clamps to most table edges rather than needing a matching table

What it gets wrong

  • A loop is a positioning aid, not a restraint, and a dog must never be left in one
  • Clamp can mark a table edge
  • Cheap arms wobble; this is why you buy a branded one

Who should skip itSkip it only if your dog already stands still unaided — almost nobody's does.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

How do I get my big dog on the grooming table?

An electric lift that drops to floor level, or a ramp trained in advance with treats, or do not raise the dog and work on the floor instead. Not lifting.

What weight capacity do I need?

Aim for roughly 1.5 times your dog's weight. A dog that shifts its weight suddenly loads a table far beyond its static weight.

Are hydraulic tables better than electric?

Both get the dog up without lifting. Hydraulic uses a foot pump, which needs no outlet and has less to fail; electric is easier mid-groom when your hands are full. Either beats a fixed table on a large dog.

Will a folding table hold a Great Pyrenees?

A heavy-duty one rated for giant breeds, yes. A budget folding table, no — and the failure mode is a frightened dog rather than a collapse, which is nearly as bad because the dog will not get back on.

How this page was put together

We define the coat problem the tool has to solve, shortlist products currently sold, compare the manufacturers’ documented specifications against what that coat actually needs, and cross-check against published findings from named sources. We do not test these tools on our own dogs under controlled conditions, and we will not say we do. Where a figure comes from a manufacturer, we name them; where it comes from someone else’s testing, we cite them. We print no prices — a stale number is worse than none. Read the full method.
