Grooming Tables & Vacuum Kits

Best Dog Grooming Vacuums

The hair goes into a canister instead of into your house. That is the whole pitch, and for a heavy shedder it is a good one.

What a grooming vacuum does and does not do

The short answer

It does not remove more hair than the equivalent hand tool. It catches the hair at the tool, so it goes into a canister instead of onto your floor, your clothes and the air. For a heavy shedder groomed indoors, that is a genuine quality-of-life purchase. It is a convenience, not a grooming upgrade.

Neakasa P2 Pro figures (10,500 Pa, under 52 dB, 2 L) and P1 comparison per the published sources below.

About the clipper head

Most of these kits include a clipper attachment. Treat it as a convenience for a quick tidy, not as a replacement for a real clipper: the motor is small, the blade options are minimal, and on a dense coat it will struggle. If clipping is part of your routine, buy a proper clipper and use the vacuum for the brushing and deshedding heads.

A grooming vacuum hose and brush attachment
Hair goes up the hose into the canister. The attachments are ordinary grooming tools with a suction port behind them.

Separate from the noise, the sensation of the coat being drawn into a head is unfamiliar and some dogs object to it at any volume. Introduce it the same way you would a dryer: running in the room first, then switched off against the coat, then low on a shoulder. Do not start with the deshedding head.

Worth it or not

Worth it if: your dog sheds heavily, you groom indoors, and the hair is a real problem in your house. Not worth it if: you can groom outdoors, your dog does not shed much, or your budget would be better spent on a force dryer — which on a double coat removes far more undercoat than any vacuum.

The picks in full

Every pick, in order

01

Best overall grooming vacuum

Neakasa P2 Pro grooming vacuum kit

10,500 Pa, under 52 dB, and a 2 L bin that gets you through a Golden without stopping.

A suction grooming kit hose and brush head

Suction grooming kit

Suction
10,500 Pa
Noise
Under 52 dB
Dust cup
2 L
Tools
Five grooming heads including clipper and deshedding brush

Specs: Neakasa — Best pet grooming vacuum comparison

Three published numbers explain the ranking. 10,500 Pa is enough suction to catch hair at the tool rather than letting it escape. Under 52 dB is quiet for a vacuum, and noise is the single reason dogs refuse these. And the 2 L dust cup — twice the P1's — means you do not stop halfway through a heavy shedder to empty it, which is where the earlier model frustrated people. Bulky to store.

Suction9.5
Noise9.5
Bin capacity9.5
Attachment quality8.5
Value7.5
Overall9.0 / 10

What it gets right

  • The 2 L bin is the practical upgrade over the P1: you do not stop halfway through a Golden Retriever to empty it
  • Under 52 dB is quiet for a vacuum, and noise is the only reason dogs refuse these
  • The suction catches the hair at the tool, which is the entire argument for this category

What it gets wrong

  • The clipper head is a convenience, not a substitute for a real clipper
  • Hose and canister are bulky to store
  • Suction pulls on the coat, which some dogs will not accept at any noise level

Who should skip itSkip it if your dog does not shed much — you are buying a solution to hair volume you do not have.

Best value if you have a small dog

Neakasa P1 Pro grooming vacuum kit

Most of the same idea for less money, as long as you accept emptying it more often.

A suction grooming kit hose and brush head

Suction grooming kit

Dust cup
Roughly half the P2 Pro's capacity
Tools
Multiple grooming heads with suction
Positioning
The earlier, cheaper model in the range

Specs: K9 Magazine — Neakasa P1 Pro vs P2 Pro

The earlier model with roughly half the dust-cup capacity. On a small or medium dog that is a non-issue and the saving is real. On a large heavy shedder you will empty it mid-session every single time, which is exactly the annoyance the P2 Pro was designed to remove. Being superseded also means accessory availability will tail off over time.

Suction8.0
Noise7.5
Bin capacity5.5
Attachment quality8.0
Value8.5
Overall7.6 / 10

What it gets right

  • Materially cheaper than the P2 Pro for most of the same function
  • Same core idea: hair goes into the canister, not your floor
  • Smaller canister is lighter to carry round the dog

What it gets wrong

  • You will empty it mid-groom on any large shedding dog
  • Louder than the P2 Pro
  • Being superseded means accessory availability will tail off

Who should skip itSkip it if your dog is large and sheds heavily — the bin size will annoy you every single session.

Best for small breeds

oneisall dog grooming kit and hair vacuum

Compact and light, which around a small dog beats raw suction.

A suction grooming kit hose and brush head

Suction grooming kit

Design
Compact, ergonomic body
Best for
Small breeds and delicate coats
Tools
Clipper, deshedding and brush heads with suction

Specs: Neakasa — Best pet grooming vacuum comparison

Published as best for small breeds, and the reason is handling rather than specification: a compact ergonomic body is easier to maneuver around a 12 lb dog, and you can use it one-handed while steadying the dog with the other. Suction and bin capacity are both well below the Neakasa units, so it will not keep up with a double-coat blow.

Suction6.0
Noise8.0
Bin capacity5.5
Attachment quality6.5
Value9.0
Overall7.0 / 10

What it gets right

  • The compact body is easier to handle around a small dog than a full-size canister
  • Cheapest route into suction grooming
  • Light enough to use one-handed while steadying the dog with the other

What it gets wrong

  • Suction and bin capacity are both well below the Neakasa units
  • Will not keep up with a heavy double-coat blow
  • Attachment quality is basic

Who should skip itSkip it for a large double-coated dog — it is sized for small breeds and will frustrate you.

04

Cheaper answer to the same problem

FURminator dog grooming rake

If the goal is less hair in the house, a rake and a bin bag outside costs a tiny fraction.

An undercoat rake pulling loose undercoat from a dense coat

Rotating-tine undercoat rake

Tines
Rotating, long
Works on
Thick and double coats, longer hair
Action
Lifts dead undercoat without cutting the guard coat

Specs: Furric — Best Deshedding Tool

Worth saying plainly. A grooming vacuum is a convenience purchase: it does not remove more hair than a rake, it just catches what comes out. If your budget is limited, a rake used outdoors twice a week removes the same hair for a fraction of the price. Buy the vacuum because the convenience is worth it to you, not because it grooms better.

Suction1.0
Noise10.0
Bin capacity10.0
Attachment quality8.0
Value10.0
Overall7.4 / 10

What it gets right

  • Rotating tines slide through dense undercoat instead of ripping it, so the dog tolerates longer sessions
  • Reaches deeper into a double coat than any slicker
  • Does not cut, so you cannot thin the guard coat with it

What it gets wrong

  • Slower than a bladed deshedder on short coats
  • Tines can catch on a genuine mat and need working loose
  • Does not finish — you still need a slicker and comb afterwards

Who should skip itSkip it on a short-coated dog — a bladed deshedder does that job far faster.

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

What is the best vacuum for dog hair?

For hair already on your floor, a household vacuum with a motorized pet head. For hair before it leaves the dog, a grooming vacuum kit — which is what this page covers. They solve different problems.

Do grooming vacuums actually work?

Yes, at catching the hair the attachment removes. They do not remove more hair than the same tool without suction, so judge them as a cleanliness feature.

Are they loud?

Quieter than a household vacuum and much quieter than a force dryer — the Neakasa P2 Pro is specified under 52 dB. That is the main reason this category exists for sound-sensitive dogs.

Can I use the clipper attachment instead of a clipper?

For a light tidy on a thin coat, yes. For a body clip on anything dense, no — the motor and blade options are not there.

Neakasa P1 Pro or P2 Pro?

P2 Pro for a large or heavy-shedding dog, because of the 2 L bin and the lower noise. P1 Pro if your dog is small and the saving matters. Full comparison: Neakasa vs oneisall.

How this page was put together

We define the coat problem the tool has to solve, shortlist products currently sold, compare the manufacturers’ documented specifications against what that coat actually needs, and cross-check against published findings from named sources. We do not test these tools on our own dogs under controlled conditions, and we will not say we do. Where a figure comes from a manufacturer, we name them; where it comes from someone else’s testing, we cite them. We print no prices — a stale number is worse than none. Read the full method.
